DJ Coyote was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and has lived up and down California his whole life. Music bit him early — his mom was a huge Elvis and Beatles fan, and by extension, so was he. When he discovered legendary Bay Area DJ Dr. Don Rose, Coyote knew exactly what he wanted to be: a DJ who spins great music with a wicked sense of humor.
Life, of course, had a few detours in store. He learned to read music and play the clarinet in fourth grade, switched to tenor sax in junior high, and by high school was lugging around a baritone sax in the marching and jazz bands — performing and competing across the state. Those years cemented his lifelong love of music.
After marrying his high school sweetheart, he moved to the Central Valley and followed the family tradition into firefighting, becoming the department’s second-ever certified EMT. He rose to the rank of lieutenant and training officer before an injury in the line of duty led to a medical retirement.
Coyote never stopped chasing new challenges — from various jobs to weekend overnights at a Modesto classic rock station — and eventually retired from the petroleum industry at 45. That’s when he finally pursued his lifelong dream: radio. He landed his first online DJ gig seven years ago, and the rest, as they say, is history.
He’s also a proud father and grandfather (just call him Papa).
